The last and best trailer of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom just dropped and it’s been making believers out of those who initially second-guessed the sequel to the award-winning Breath of the Wild.

(If you haven’t seen the trailer yet, check it out below.)

The third official trailer of Tears of the Kingdom finally reveals how big this version of Hyrule is and how deep the lore seems to go. Aside from giving us another look at the mechanics featured in a recent gameplay demonstration (notably the Ultrahand that gives Link the ability to build objects), we also get to see one character fans have been waiting for: Ganondorf.

Ganondorf’s revival brings about the separation of Zelda from Link, and Zelda seems to be transported into another place/world/time/dimension.

And as with all Zelda iterations, we find out that Link is Hyrule’s “final hope”.

While Hyrule seems so vast and stretches across both space and time, Link is not alone in his journey. He reconnects with old friends, including Riju and Sidon (and most probably Yunobo).

We also see a new character, which fans speculate to be Hyrule’s goddess.

It also looks like the production team really listened to the fans: aside from Link’s new skills, we’re getting more puzzles, interesting dungeons, and larger-than-life boss fights (three-headed dragon, anyone?).

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom seems to explore not just Hyrule’s sky, surface, and subterrain, but also its past and present. The concept of time may play a huge role in this sequel through Link’s ability “Recall” which can send objects back to the recent past, and through what seems to be a reflection on the land’s troubled history.

All in all, the final trailer to Tears of the Kingdom has delivered more than what most of us has expected? And yes, it smells like Game of the Year.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom launches on the Nintendo Switch on May 12, 2023.
