Motorola releases the Moto E 2015 edition and it’s awesome

The first Moto E was a rock-solid entry-level smartphone from a company that knows how mobile devices work. This year, the 2015 edition of the Moto E has just gone up on Motorola’s website and it’s looking as good as it can be.
People tend to gloss over the entry-level smartphone category. It’s 2015, and you’ve more or less owned a smartphone already, so this little piece of plastic and silicon isn’t some new territory already. But there are still those (especially locally) who cling to their dumb or feature phones for sentimentality, but cannot deny their smart device itch any longer. Then there are those who earn enough to buy a flagship but choose to get the simplest smartphone out there because it can give them access to apps, pocket-friendly, and no-frills. The biggest group of course, will be the people who want to solid device that can keep up for the interim, but not burn a substantial hole in their wallet.
Enter the Moto E 2015. The screen size is bigger at 4.5 inches, but retains its 540 x 960 pixel count. The processor is a beefier Qualcomm Snapdragon 401 chip paired with an Adreno 306 GPU, 1GB RAM, and has an upped storage count of 8GB running Android 5.0 Lollipop. The camera has been upgraded to a decent 5 megapixel rear and VGA front, so don’t expect this handset to be beating the likes of the LG G3 anytime soon.
What we really liked about this device is that it’s LTE capable. Not many entry-level smartphones can give that kind of feature, and it shows how Motorola is keeping up with tech advancements. It certainly encourages people with an already existing LTE-ready smartphone to pick up the Moto E as a secondary device because of the LTE. The device sports a 2,390 mAh battery which might seem a little low for today’s standards, but it can go the distance.
Like the previous-generation Moto E and the Moto G, the new Moto E will be water resistant and just a tough cookie overall. We love the Moto G to bits and with news that it will be released in Asia, we’re hoping that it will be available in our shores very soon.
The Moto E 2015 is now available starting at $149 or around P6,600.
