While flagship phones do attract the eye with their sleek and stunning aesthetics, quality materials, and of course, innovations in specs and use, it’s always been a well-established fact that majority of local consumers prefer entry-level to midrange devices. We always want bang-for-the-buck deals in anything, and it doubly applies to gadgets. To this end, Huawei isn’t content at just coming out with Leica-powered DLSRs-turned-smartphones, they also have phones for the lot of us, like the Nova 2 Lite and this one: the Huawei Y6 2018 edition.
Right out of the box, the phone is sleek and high, to accommodate its 18:9 screen ratio, a trend shared among smartphones since last year. The taller real estate means that this phone wants its media (movies, shows, games) viewed horizontally. No notch here, folks, just straight up maximized 5.7 inch display. The Y6 is a joy to hold, especially for smaller hands, as the thinner width and great construction of the body (no squeaking when you squeeze) allow for better grip.

Our review unit came with a USB charging cable and not much else. It would’ve been great if Huawei added earphones to the package, since there is a 3.5mm headphone jack located at the top part of the phone. The aesthetics of the phone, however, put it above the rest. It just looks fantastic in metallic blue. Another definite plus for this budget-category phone is that is comes with Android Oreo pre-installed, one of the few phones in its price category to do so. It’s 13MP rear and 5MP front camera combo is pretty much standard fare for entry-level devices, while the 3,000mAh battery is definitely a big plus, especially with phones at this range being used for games and movies.
All in all, the Huawei Y6 2018 edition is a decent budget-friendly phone for multimedia purposes, and we can’t wait to delve deeper into its performance. Check back soon for our review!
