Ant-Man begins production

We’ve just received word that Marvel Studios has begun principal photography for Ant-Man!
Set for release in the United States on July 17, 2015, Ant-Man is directed by Peyton Reed (Bring it On, The Break-Up) and stars Paul Rudd (I Love You Man, Role Models) as Scott Lang aka Ant-Man, Michael Douglas (Behind The Candelabra, Wall Street) as his mentor Dr. Hank Pym and Evangeline Lilly (The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, Lost) as Hope Van Dyne, daughter of Hank Pym.
Based on the Marvel comic character first published in 1962, Ant-Man continues the lineage of epic big-screen adventures from the comic company’s characters like Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, The Avengers, and Guardians of the Galaxy.
Since this is Scott-Ant-Man, Marvel has also kept his conman/theif roots, which is a great thing, since that’s the Ant-Man most people in the 90’s grew up with. This time around, however, Scott is an assistant to Hank Pym, and must hatch a scheme to pull off a heist that will save the world.
Very interesting movie premise right there, and it shows a bit of legacy in terms of the Ant-Man name. In the comics, Scott actually stole the suit from Pym in order to commit robberies to pay for her daughter Cassie’s treatment, but instead saved a doctor that could help. Scott then turns into a full-time hero.
Marvel Studios’ upcoming release schedule includes Avengers: Age of Ultron on May 1, 2015, Captain America 3 on May 6, 2016, and Guardians of the Galaxy 2, on July 28, 2017.
