A good monitor is a must whether you’re a serious gamer, or someone who needs a very accurate display for their line of work, or both. While there’s nothing wrong with monitors at the lower end of the performance spectrum, it’s a smarter move to get one that does the job well, especially if you’re shelling out a good amount of money.
We recently tried the ViewSonic OMNI VX2428J Gaming Monitor, which is part of the OMNI VX28 series. Here’s a quick view of the specs:

ViewSonic OMNI VX2428J Gaming Monitor Setup
Setting the monitor up doesn’t take a lot of time or screws, which we like as clumsy individuals. ViewSonic boasts an “ergonomically-designed stand” that comes with its ability to do a full monitor tilt, pivot, and swivel, as well as quick height adjustments. Hooking it up to our laptop is also pretty quick, however, the monitor does not come with an HDMI cable out of the box. Remember to have one available if you’re not hooking it up to a desktop rig.
Display and Performance
A regular user would not have the tools or the know-how to do an in-depth test of a monitor, and even if they did, the numbers wouldn’t really make a whole lot of sense–and that’s totally fine. The problem is that some monitors are marketed with really high refresh rates (the number of times that your monitor can display image per second), which can be impressive, but not often that accurate as some companies test their monitors in environments that don’t reflect daily usage.
This is why the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) has started standardizing what makes a good monitor. Monitors that get the VESA AdaptiveSync certification are those that have passed variable refresh rate standards, while those that get the VESA ClearMR certification passed motion blur grading tests.
