It has been a year (or more) since ASUS Technologies launched the ZenFone 5 series, with the ZenFone 5Z leading the pack. Now, with the ZenFone 6 on its way to the markets (shout out to ASUS Philippines *wink, wink*), it is definitely high time to look back at the flagship that began revolutionizing the ZenFone line-up back in 2018. Can the ZenFone 5Z hold its ground now in 2019? We will see.

Zenfone 5Z: Design
Trends come and go, and the “notch” is a testament to that. That said, it should be obvious that the ZenFone 5Z’s design will have aged some time this 2019; especially with the newest smartphone designs coming out from every corner. However, the same with its ZenFone 5 sibling, the ZenFone 5Z’s glassy aesthetic is still an elegant and stylish look that fits every occasion. Moreover, users can still enjoy the best viewing experience with its 6.2-inch, 18:9 FDH+ screen.
Zenfone 5Z: Performance
Equipped with a Qualcomm™ Snapdragon™ 845 SoC, the ZenFone 5Z is performs as well as any other smartphone from the 845 family in 2018, which means it still has relevant horsepower to this date. It is still fast, smooth, and highly optimized for what it offers. Especially with the help of the good ol’ ASUS AI Engine – which, reminder, learns its user’s habits. Add-on the Android Pie update to this, the ZenFone 5Z becomes an enjoyable and reliable companion to power-users.
Zenfone 5Z: Battery
Nowadays, more and more phones come with battery capacities that are higher than that of the ZenFone 5Z’s. Case and point, the ZenFone Max M2 series. Nevertheless, ASUS’ 2018 champion’s 3,300mAh has been enough to power its owner through a whole day.
Zenfone 5Z: Cameras
Again, the ZenFone 5Z is designed with a 12MP+8MP dual rear cameras that is partnered with 16 AI modes. From the very beginning, it was jam-packed with everything that any mobile photographer can ask for. However, with recent updates on the phone, the ZenFone 5Z gives its user everything and then some; especially where the cameras are concerned.

Zenfone 5Z: Still Worth It?
The ZenFone 5Z first arrived in the country for the price of P29,995, and with the recent smartphones coming from other competing brands, the original price point becomes a questionable choice for consumers despite the beast of a performer it is. However, with the recent promo ASUS Philippines announced, the ZenFone 5Z has become a steal. The updated price for this particular ZenFone is P24,995.
All in all, the Zenfone 5Z can still go toe-to-toe with smartphones in its new price point, with a slight advantage of all its flagship features.
